We are pleased to have Jerry Allen joining the committee as the new student representative for Creative Writing. Creative Writing has been under represented for some time and we are delighted that Jerry has volunteered to fill that gap.
Creative Writers seem to be shyer than other OCA students. Perhaps our creative process is more solitary; perhaps sharing our product is less immediately engaging; or perhaps it is just my impression from jealously looking at the blog sites of photography and fine art students.
I get the impression that we have less study visits and workshops than other students. Perhaps that’s because of the nature of the product or because events are cancelled through lack of interest. Recent discussions in the Creative Writing Forum describe the issue.
For these reasons I feel that Creative Writers should be represented by a student who is somewhat bolshie.
Like many OCA students I messed up my education the first time. The IT industry enabled me to earn a living and travel, but gradually I became more involved in NGO (Charity) projects in Asia. Because I witnessed some human tragedies, I am now a Country Coordinator for South Asia for Amnesty International and a member of the Amnesty International UK Board.
Hopefully that demonstrates that I have the right amount of bolshie-ness for this role.
