About the Event
Join Bryan Eccleshall for two workshops (each two hours long) to explore how text has been used in visual art and to develop your own way of doing it. This pair of workshops should be of particular interest to Fine Art / Drawing / Painting students but may also be of use to students on Illustration, Graphic Design, Photography, and Creative Writing degree pathways. It is open to all degree level students.
Please make sure you are able to attend both sessions (Saturday 17 July 10am – noon and Saturday 31 July 10am – noon) when you sign up. We are limiting this event to thirty students, so you will have to book in advance.
What do you mean 'visual art and text'?
Contemporary visual art can have a close relationship with text. Sometimes as a way of complimenting images, not least in the way things are titled, but also as an integral part of the work. But the practice goes back a long way.
The first session will introduce lots of different ways that text has been used in visual art and also explore some novel ways that text can be ‘managed’ rather than written. Following this presentation, students will be encouraged to discuss how they have thought about text in relation to their work to date.
The second session will be set up as a ‘crit’ in which work generated in the light of the first session will be presented and discussed.
How do you sign up?
Both sessions will be run using Zoom. Register via eventbrite here https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/visual-art-and-text-a-pair-of-workshops-for-students-of-any-discipline-tickets-160965739861
