About the Event

Deaf Awareness - Monday 20th June, 6:30pm-8pm This session aims to outline the basics of communicating with D/deaf and Hard of Hearing people. It covers the important considerations to make in communicating, correct language and terminology when referring to the D/deaf community and cultural differences. The session will be recorded, but live attendance is recommended to get the most from the experience.

Open to: all students and staff, including international students. 

An Introduction to British Sign Language (half day course) - Friday 24th June, 9:30am-1pm

This half day course will introduce participants to the BSL alphabet and numbers and how to start and answer basic questions and conversations. Further reading and resources will also be provided for those who wish to continue their learning. The course will be recorded, but live attendance is recommended to get the most from the experience.

Open to: all students and staff. Participants must have a good understanding of British English.
