About the Event
We are pleased to announce that we have joined up with PILAA, to partner with us and help deliver a series of student facing, ‘diversity, inclusion and equality events, as it relates to Higher Education, learning and teaching, the Arts and the curriculum. There will also be a limited number of spaces for staff to attend the training also.
PILAA’s origins and philosophy combine diversity and the Arts and they will take us on a journey of provocations around our understandings of difference, anti-racism, anti-classism and anti-prejudice, through a series of sessions, including: ‘Whiteness Made Simple and Class – The Elephant in the Room’, What is difference? ‘Self-Censorship and Facilitating Difficult Dialogues’, ‘Being Your Authentic Self in the Workplace’, as well as facilitating an ‘Open Forum’ on a specific theme, as agreed with yourselves.
The bespoke training aims to unpack individual and collective belief systems, looking at how we make sense of categories of difference; race, gender, sexuality, class, dis(ability) and those beyond the usual dogma. What goes without saying and who’s voices are heard in the institution? Who gets to speak and who’s are excluded? In these visual participatory sessions, you are invited to ruminate on what we think we know and the pre-conceptions we bring to the table.
This is the one of many steps towards our wider organisational commitment to improve equality, diversity and inclusion (EDI) at the OCA.
As well as raising awareness, this will help embed EDI into:
- Our values
- The way we learn, teach and work, including changing what we do and how we do it
- The way we relate to each other and the institution
How do I register/sign up?
