About the Event
Keeping up Momentum: Chain Reaction with Bryan Eccleshall
October 9th and 30th 2021, 10am to 12.30 via Zoom
In this two-part workshop you will draw on ideas of translation and interpretation to generate new works. Some of that work will involve collaboration, but you'll also be free to work on things on your own. Many art works have their roots in - or are interpretations of - other art works. West Side Story is a version of Romeo and Juliet, and John Keats' Ode to a Grecian Urn is a creative description of - guess what? - a Grecian urn. Picasso made creative interpretations of paintings by Velasquez and Grunewald and Sherries Levine's 'rephotography' of works by Walker Evans and others have been causing trouble for years.
This pair of workshops will include some background information on acts of creative interpretation and should allow you to develop / create methods that can be added to your current practice. Given that you will be encouraged to make interpretations / translations that move between disciplines (from text to music, or from translated poetry to drawing, or from painting to film, etc.), the sessions should offer something to people studying on any of the courses OCA offers, and at any level. The more the merrier.
Be prepared to make work in at least the first session and to be able to spend some time between the two sessions developing and/or collaborating on other work. You will be put into cross-disciplinary groups for breakouts during the sessions. Keeping up Momentum is open to all OCA students - any course, any level.
To book a ticket please add your details to this registration sheet. You will need to be logged in to your OCA account to edit the sheet. The Zoom log-in details will be sent to you a few days before the event.
Keeping up Momentum is a student-led initiative to inspire, motivate and connect OCA students.
