Keeping up Momentum: Chain Reaction with Bryan Eccleshall
October 9th and 30th 2021, 10am to 12.30 via Zoom
In this two-part workshop you will draw on ideas of translation and interpretation to generate new works. Some of that work will involve collaboration, but you'll also be free to work on things on your own. Many art works have their roots in - or are interpretations of - other art works. West Side Story is a version of Romeo and Juliet, and John Keats' Ode to a Grecian Urn is a creative description of - guess what? - a Grecian urn. Picasso made creative interpretations of paintings by Velasquez and Grunewald and Sherries Levine's 'rephotography' of works by Walker Evans and others have been causing trouble for years.
This pair of workshops will include some background information on acts of creative interpretation and should allow you to develop / create methods…
