Prepare to be captivated by Ferzam, a mesmerising Butoh dancer joining us once again from Mexico, as he transforms the life drawing session into something otherworldly. Expect an evening of evocative, twisted, and strikingly beautiful poses.
Butoh, which emerged in Japan during the late 1950s and 60s, arose as an experimental performance language in the wake of World War II. Infamous for defying definition, its founder Hijikata Tatsumi resisted attempts to confine it within rigid structures. The form is often characterised by its stark white body paint, deliberate and highly controlled movements, and its embrace of the grotesque, the surreal, and the taboo.
Over the decades, Butoh has evolved far beyond its origins, inspiring artists and dancers worldwide to shape their own interpretations and aesthetics. With Ferzam, we’ll witness this lineage refracted through a deeply personal…
