OCA Big Draw 2026 - Narrative Mark Making

Within this workshop, Ailish will first lead a lecture on her own practice history and how this relates to Narratives in creative practice. Working examples will be shown. In line with this, Ailish’s book Narrative Textiles is a working example of practice methods.

The workshop will then be presented in a relaxed format, where you are welcome to work in tandem or take notes for later action. Slides and films will be shown to impart ideas, particularly from a “from sketch to stich” angle, showing how a mixed sense of media can be used for the creative mark. The Narrative or storytelling lies within you, you can add your personal experience, in an obvious or more subtle way. 

The focus in this workshop is not to build an outcome in real time, rather a gathering of thoughts and ideas and hopefully to leave feeling inspired.
