About the Event

OCA Goes To Venice

We are proposing a trip to the Venice Biennale for any students at Open College of the Arts with an interest.

The Painting Department is very lucky to have a student currently living near Venice who has supported us to design a study event. The Drawing Department has a student exhibiting in Venice this year too as part of a collaborative art project. We have been wanting to try for this event for a while but it seems that this year could be the year.

We propose a series of meetings for all interested students to plan the event. You will be responsible for all your accommodation and subsistence needs. By meeting regularly through the year we can look at how best to manage this, perhaps sharing accommodation or even just good leads for cheap deals. If you are interested please RSVP.

If there is enough interest, OCA will provide two tutors, Clare Wilson and Emma Drye, who will guide the study event and provide opportunities for you to discuss what you see. The Biennale is enormous and a blend of personal time and shared time will enable us to cover more ground and share highlights.

Our proposal is to attend for 3 days in the second half of October. Exact dates can be agreed at our first meeting. Attendance at the first meeting will not require any commitment from you so feel free to attend to see if it is viable for you.

There will be a small booking fee for the trip, around £20 (the tutor costs are being supported by OCASA) but the costs of accommodation, travel, taxes and tickets for you if you attend could be quite substantial, so please bear this in mind. Our estimate is that this could cost you around £500, although most of that is accommodation and food which are very flexible costs in either direction.

The Biennale is an intense experience. It is spread out over a large area and to see it requires walking for long periods. October is obviously quieter but it is still quite busy.

Please register your interest via the RSVP button and we will be in touch with further details.
