For our next event we are pleased to welcome Alicia Bruce to speak to us on Wednesday 11th March at 18:30 GMT.
Alicia is an award-winning working-class photographer, artist, and activist. Her work bridges documentary and staged photography, co-authoring humane stories of people and places. Often inspired by art history, her practice engages with environmental issues, portraiture, human rights, feminism, participation and the politics of space.
Her monograph, I Burn But I Am Not Consumed (Daylight Books, 2023), documents 16 years of Donald Trump’s impact on Menie in Scotland, earning international acclaim. Deeply personal and political, Bruce’s ongoing documentation of Trump’s developments in Menie serves as a humane and poignant portrait of a community in conflict. It offers a critical reflection on the lasting impacts of a development marketed as “The Greatest Golf Course in the World” and the consequences of prioritizing profit over preservation.
