About the Event
Daneka (they/them/she) is a writer, actor and Equality and Inclusion consultant, specialising in arts spaces. They are a non-binary, disabled, neurodivergent, bisexual, working class person from Cumbria. Daneka previously chaired the LGBTQIA+ Working Group for the former drama school ALRA, which was a monthly online meet-up space for the queer and genderqueer students to voice concerns, wishes, wants of their studies and university (across foundation, BA and MA studies programmes); and also a space to connect and chat with their LGBTQIA+ peers.
Daneka knows first hand the importance of queer-positive spaces that are inclusive of all LGBTQIA+ identities, that don’t just exist in cramped, dark corners of clubs (although they can be fun too!) and works with positive-but-realistic view of queer equity that is urgent, ever-evolving, consistently-learning and always promoting an intersectional, actively disability positive, low-income/class inclusive and non-Westernised view of gender and sexuality.
This group is for anyone of any LGBTQIA+ identity, whether you know your label or not, whether you are ‘out’ or not who wants to connect with other LGBTQIA+ artists to discuss your work, identity, wants and wishes for society and beyond; as well as a confidential space to feedback on any thoughts and experiences during your time studying with OCA.
As this is a pilot event if you are interested but cannot make it please let us know by emailing studyevents@oca.ac.uk and we can discuss times and days that would work better for you. If anyone has any questions or concerns please email studyevents@oca.ac.uk.
