About the Event

Throughout this workshop you’ll learn the basics of collage and how to capture figures by drawing with scissors. You’ll go on to create you own paper portraits using collage. This workshop will run for 90 minutes and will be a very relaxed informal format with a combination of quick exercises and long form opportunities to create a diverse body of work.

Workshop Breakdown:

Get to know me

I’ll give you the run down of my work, how I got into the world of collage and why it’s my favourite medium.

Warm up time

Let's take the pressure off. The magic of paper collage is there’s no right way.

We’ll begin by covering some of the basic paper techniques.

Capturing a figure using paper

This will be broken down into a series of timed sessions that allow us to capture figures that will be shared on your screen.

Long form paper portrait

Now it's time to capture ourselves and create our final portrait artwork!

Materials you’ll need:

  • A pair of scissors - These can be any scissors, even kitchen scissors will do, so long as you can cut through your paper!
  • A Glue Stick - I recommend Pritt stick as it dries quickly making it easy to work with.
  • A Pencil and rubber
  • Colourful card/ paper
  • A combination of 7 A4 size sheets of coloured paper/card minimum (if you have more that's great also!)
  • One white piece of paper/card.

For this workshop we'll be doing a number of warmups alongside a longer form paper portrait. If you're short on materials. I recommend setting aside 3 pieces of your coloured card for your final portrait and using whatever you have access to for the warm up exercises.

Everyone Welcome! Please do let us know if you have any access needs. The event will be hosted on zoom and will not be recorded.

This event has a group. You’re welcome to join the group once you register for the event.
