Photography Social Group: Anna Sellen: Taking a Leap of Faith

Anna Sellen is a UK based artist, born in Russia and based on the west coast of Wales. Drawing on her experiences of migration, margins and boundaries, she frequently crosses the borders between photography, video, sound, installation and text to find inspiration for her multi-disciplinary projects. She often works autobiographically, combining her personal history with research and archival work to explore wider political and cultural debates.

Anna is a recent OCA (BA) Photography graduate. This year her work won prizes at Earth Photo International Photography competition and RBSA Photography Prize, and featured in OpenWalls Arles, FORMAT International Photography Festival, the RPS International Photography Exhibition 164 and other events.

In this talk, Anna would like to share how her final years of studying at OCA helped her to take a leap of faith and throw herself into the unknown – to change her location, career and life and start realising her new professional dream. And, if time allows, she would be interested to discuss how to balance diverse commitments and resist the burnout, but also how we can change and challenge the arts sector’s culture and structures to ensure fair pay and working conditions for artists and creative practitioners.
