Wånder Wide Web as a year-long on-line residency and exhibition initiative brings together a group of 16 international art students from the Open College of Arts (OCA)/University for the Creative Arts, UK.

we wander: purposefully, leisurely, attentively, absentmindedly

we wonder in the process, at this, and that,

wide (and far) to move closer, collaborate

we web: spider; mycielium, bibre optics, all facilitate

wånder

there is sea-rope too.

Many of the works are collaborative in nature and are the outcome of our numerous and expanding webs, sometimes explicitly wondrous and often wandering. As an annual project within the Regional Group Europe, during 2021/22 we spent time and resources to connect and work together, where after a year of pandemic, the limitations for shared physical experiences had become so apparent. Thus we created this residency and group exhibition.

A wide range of different collaborations is presented: co-produced works such as those by Admill Kuyler & Baiba Vagule or Annette Holtkamp & Karen Stander; materials provided for an installation (Kate Horsburgh) and extended print series (Annalisa Mercuri); or the large modular works (Sonia Boening, Gesa Helms) where respective parts were made by others. Other works speak materially to web-making (Lia Minou, Inger Inanna Weidema).

These works could not exist without the contribution of others, the ongoing exchanges and discussions of concepts, instructions, and even more practical how-tos. Webs of connection are woven, a thread is continuously made, of ideas, concepts and materials. This show makes visible some of our processes and means of doing so: visual, material, textual and wåndering.

The artists participating are:

Sonia Boening, Brindusa Burrows, Nicky Eastaugh, Adelina Gelu, Gesa Helms, Annette Holtkamp, Kate Horsburgh, Peter Hungerford, Admill Kuyler, Renate Maas, Annalisa Mercuri, Lia Minou, Karen Stander, Angela Trencsak, Baiba Vagule, Inger Inanna Weidema.
