This major exhibition explores feminist art and activism in the UK from 1970 to 1990, examining how interconnected networks of women combined radical ideas with rebellious methods to critique and subvert the prevailing cultural landscape of the era. Bringing together work by over 100 women artists and collectives living and working in the UK, the exhibition presents painting, drawing, photography, collage, textiles, printmaking, film, sculpture, and archival materials mapping feminist art and activism against a backdrop of extreme social, economic, and political change.
The visit will conclude as usual with a group discussion, ending by 14:30. Everyone Welcome!
Listen to the Women in Revolt! podcast - This 6-part mini-series explores art, activism and the women's movement in the UK in the 1970s and 80s. From early struggles for equal pay, to punk, Thatcher and the AIDS pandemic, this was a time of extreme social, economic and political change.
