Disability Rep
I'm not too sure if this is the place to talk about this but I'm really struggling to find anywhere else I can actually TALK to anyone about it. In project 2 where we are directed to ArtXHistory for further reading. I was looking through the options for political art and there is NOTHING for "disabled" or "disability"? Not even the ADA Capitol Sit In which was organized in tandem with the Black Panthers?? Just seems weird to have nothing about disability protest/political art at all.
I'm a disabled, political artist, I'm pretty gutted tbh

Hi, what's your course/unit? I'm in Painting & currently on unit 2.2. My last unit had a set of themes to choose from & one was Protest, Resistance & DIY.
I loved it, but there are definitely ways it could be improved. It was a chance to dive into the work of artists like Lubaina Himid, Helio Oiticica, Thomas Hirschhorn... However, artists who deal with disability politics weren't really represented in the suggested artists. I think it would have been open to bring them in if you're already aware of them, but it's definitely a significant omission. Our Head of Department recently asked students to submit suggestions for course content improvements & I've fed back the suggestion to include more diverse & contemporary artists including those who engage with disability politics. Thanks for pointing me to the Capitol Sit-In, I wasn't aware of it.
