What happens when two artists enter a living forest with no predetermined plan, no fixed outcomes, and a shared commitment to paying attention?
In October 2025, fibre artist Annette Holtkamp and OCA Fine Art graduate Karen Stander spent two weeks at the Bodhi Khaya Artist Residency in the Western Cape of South Africa—an ecologically and culturally significant landscape of old-growth forest, fynbos, and regenerating land.
Working with locally gathered materials, they created temporary works that evolved in dialogue with weather, light, time, and decay.
This event offers a glimpse into that experience. We will screen a condensed version of Annette’s video essay documenting the residency, followed by a conversation about process, collaboration, and what it means to treat a place—and the materials it offers—as active participants in the creative process.
Join us for an evening of film, conversation, and reflections on collaboration, materiality, and making with the more-than-human world.
