✨ This month, we’re delighted to welcome Karen Stander, who will be sharing insights from her recent graduate exhibition, Hotel Kalahari.
Karen’s project, part of her BA (Hons) in Fine Art, is an exhibition located on Langvlei Farm in Riebeek West, South Africa. Her stunning wire nest sculptures explore themes of community, care, and resilience, drawing inspiration from the intricate communal nests of sociable weaver birds. Through her work, Karen invites us to reflect on how we build spaces of safety while questioning our disconnection from nature and one another.
🌍 About Karen Stander
Born in Cape Town, South Africa, Karen originally trained as a social worker before pursuing her passion for Fine Arts at OCA, University for the Creative Arts. Her practice is deeply rooted in a connection to nature, combining daily reflections, wild camping adventures, and her love for drawing to explore the interconnectivity of humans and the environment.
