Welcome to OCA's Study Tips in 5 series. In this instalment we bring you five tips to embrace feedback with confidence. Embracing feedback with confidence is important for personal and academic growth.
1. Shift your perspective on feedback
View feedback as an opportunity for growth and learning rather than as criticism.
Understand that feedback is aimed at helping you improve and succeed, not as a reflection of your worth.
2. Prepare mentally for feedback
Before receiving feedback, remind yourself of your strengths and areas where you’ve made progress.
Approach feedback sessions with an open mind, ready to listen and learn without becoming defensive.
3. Practise active listening
Listen carefully to the feedback being given without interrupting or immediately reacting.
Take notes if necessary to ensure you understand the points being made and can reflect on them later.
4. Ask clarifying questions
If any part of the feedback is unclear or if you need more information, ask questions.
Ask for specific examples or suggestions on how to improve, this can make feedback more actionable and less overwhelming.
5. Develop a plan for improvement
Use the feedback to create a plan for addressing areas of improvement.
Set specific, achievable goals and track your progress over time. Celebrate small victories as you work on incorporating the feedback.
