Student Stories: Peter Hungerford

Peter, Stage 3 Photography Student - "a journey man", retired former scientist, and IT Architect. He enjoys the outdoors, travelling and the intersection of art, science and technology. Loves living in Switzerland where he can pursue all his hobbies in an international environment.

What is your previous educational experiences and what drew you to OCA?

My education and work life concentrated on science and technology. As I retired I felt I ought to approach and try to understand the arts and since I have always enjoyed taking photographs this seemed the easiest way for me to enter. The OCA with its format and courses was the natural path for me to follow.

Can you describe your OCA journey?

The biggest challenge for me was moving from a science and technology mindset into a world where there are few rules and guidelines, from a rational to a more emotional approach. This is something I still struggle with and perhaps I always will...

What does studying with OCA mean to you?

The paper, hopefully a BA, will be a reward but for me the most important aspect has been the journey, the people I have met on route and my learnings.

What's next?

Only time will tell...

Any advice?

Make the most of the experience and don't be afraid to reach out to others for help.

Where can we find you?

Peter is also hosting an event during our Student Voice Festival 2025 - Who’s Really Helping Me? Navigating Support in Creative Study. You can register your interest in attending here.
