OCASA’s Summer Of Sustainability 2025 – resources live
All the resources listed below can be found in the VLE course within the OCASA’s Summer Of Sustainability 2025 area.
The OCASA Summer Of Sustainability 2025 consisted of sessions and resources organised by Joanne Mulvihill-Allen and Dr Emma Powell.
The following OCA tutors delivered a diverse series of workshops and mini lectures. Each session has an associated Padlet with instructions and relevant research materials and examples. Joanne and Emma would like to thank these tutors for their willingness to run these exciting workshops.
Catherine Byrne’s session focused on the circular economy and took “the idea of a materials economy in interior design as a starting point.” Participants explored “the differences between a circular economy and a linear economy” and applied this knowledge to “material choices, and how that then impacts on our design decisions.” Full instructions to carry out the activity, post event, are on Catherine’s Circular Economy Padlet. Watch the recording here.
Liz Cashdan’s session focused on creative writing in relation to “interacting with nature (or other) to describe or make nature safe.” Students were encouraged to focus on a specific area and to answer a series of questions about it. Further instructions to carry out the activity, post event, are on Liz’s Creative Writing Padlet. Watch the recording here.
Rab Ferguson’s creative writing session titled Creating Climate Fiction for Children and Young Adults encouraged participants to “consider how to plan plots and create worlds that are appropriate for these age groups”. Further instructions to carry out the activity, post event, are on Rab’s Climate Fiction Padlet. Watch the recording here.
Andrea Norrington’s session focused on making a Crown Book. This structure is very versatile and simple to make. It can be used to hold removable pages of the same size. Full instructions to carry out the activity, post event, are on Andrea’s Bookmaking Padlet. You will also find instructions from previous Summer of Sustainability bookmaking activities so there is plenty to browse through. Watch the recording here. Watch the recording here.
Jenny Udale’s session explored “Tataki zome, which is a Japanese art form where natural dyes from flowers and leaves are transferred onto fabric by hammering them onto the surface”. Further instructions to carry out the activity, post event, are on Jenny’s Tataki Zome Padlet. There are plenty of student examples on the Padlet and they all look fantastic. Watch the recording here.
Katrina Whitehead’s session explored making a terrarium – a mini eco-system where plants grow in a glass vessel that is usually sealed. Full instructions to carry out the activity, post event, are on Katrina’s Terrarium Padlet. Watch the recording here.
We're looking forward to hosting something different for OCASA SoS2026. More info coming in 2026. In the meantime please enjoy these and all the other resources.
