Being more eco with screenprinting
As part of OCASA Summer of Sustainability 2024 I produced and tested some plant-extract and plant-based medium screen printing ‘paints’. Here’s a brief summary PDF of how I used them with my screenprinting at home set up.
The full information on how to make the eco screenprinting ‘paints’ and how to print with them can be found in the 'In Your Own Time' Activity Book section of the OCA Arts, the Environment & Sustainability VLE course.
Let me know if you give it a go.
By minimising our use of acrylic paints and mediums we can start to reduce the amounts of plastic and chemical pollutants we add to our domestic waste water.
Hi Emma! Thanks for this. BA Creative Arts Student. To honour my sustainability promise I’ll be using a found object for a canvas—abstract painting. I rescued a tarp (1.5 x 3m) in a moorland quarry. I originally made an installation with it, photos…I’m going to attempt to use materials found on site, I’d like to paint with ochre mud! I don’t like taking from nature so will be work with minimal taking. I may just copy the colours. Lots of testing going to happen! It’s PP, hopefully can recycle it at the recycling centre. I bought organic eco-friendly paint pigments, but I recently saw Ali Cherri’s How I am monument, loved his mud use, my visit padlet
