Welcome to OCA's Study Tips in 5 series. In this second instalment we bring you five tips to help you prioritise your study tasks, crucial for managing your time effectively and ensuring you stay on top of your study. Watch the video or read the text below.
1. Assess and Categorise Tasks.
Urgency vs. Importance: Use the Eisenhower Matrix to categorise tasks based on their urgency and importance. Focus on tasks that are both urgent and important first. Tasks can be classified into:
Urgent and Important: Do these immediately.
Important but Not Urgent: Schedule these tasks.
Urgent but Not Important: Delegate if possible.
Not Urgent and Not Important: Minimise or eliminate these tasks.
2. Set Clear Goals and Deadlines.
Define Goals: Clearly outline your study goals and break them down into smaller, actionable tasks. This makes it easier to see what needs to be done and in what order.
Establish Deadlines: Assign deadlines to each task, prioritising those with the nearest deadlines. Ensure you factor in enough time for review and potential setbacks.
3. Create A Prioritised To-Do List.
Daily and Weekly Lists: Maintain both daily and weekly to-do lists. Start each day by identifying the top three tasks that need to be accomplished.
Rank Tasks: Rank tasks in order of importance and urgency. Tackle the most critical tasks first to ensure they get done.
4. Use Time Management Techniques
Time Blocking: Allocate specific blocks of time to different tasks or subjects. This helps ensure you dedicate enough time to each area and reduces procrastination.
Pomodoro Technique: Break study sessions into focused intervals (e.g., 25 minutes of study followed by a 5-minute break) to keep you on track and help you manage time effectively.
5. Review and Adjust Regularly.
Reflect Weekly: At the end of each week, review what you’ve accomplished and adjust your priorities for the upcoming week.
Stay Flexible: Be prepared to adjust your priorities as needed. Sometimes unexpected tasks may require you to re-prioritise.
