I'm Amardeep, a lover of music, textiles, and the world of ideas. Currently, Glass Beams' sounds captivate me. I'm passionate about textiles, fascinated by the stories woven into each fabric. They're living narratives of culture and creativity. From India's tapestries to Japan's silks, textiles reveal a community's soul. Exploring them immerses me in a symphony of colors, sparking creativity. I adore travel, cultural mixtures, and the wonders of people and places. Art's storytelling ability, its impact on minds, and its beauty in environments and souls, all resonate deeply with me.
What is your previous educational experiences and what drew you to OCA?
What drew me to the OCA was flexibility…when starting my studies with the OCA I loved that I was able to work from home as this opportunity was very new at the time but as years passed I was able to focus with great passion without distractions.
Can you describe your OCA journey?
The OCA journey has changed me a lot. It made me more open-minded and playful in my art. I got to try out different materials and think in new ways. Because of OCA, I feel more confident and able to be creative in my own unique way. This experience enriched my skills, fostering daring exploration. OCA, a catalyst for growth, moulded me into an artist unafraid of imagination's uncharted territories.
What was the Tutor and/or Peer Support like on your course?
Rebecca's insightful guidance not only helped me refine my concepts but also broadened my perspectives on various topics. Her support was instrumental in my growth as a student, instilling in me the confidence to pursue ambitious projects and the resilience to overcome challenges along the way. I distinctly remember how she would patiently listen to my ideas, offering constructive feedback and alternative angles that I hadn't considered. Her mentorship was truly invaluable, shaping not just my academic success, but also my approach to learning and problem-solving.
What does studying with OCA mean to you?
Studying with OCA represents a bridge between my aspirations and realization. Philosophically, it embodies my pursuit of knowledge as a lifelong journey rather than a destination. This 'piece of paper' symbolizes my dedication to craft, the discipline to hone my skills, and the courage to create. It adds a tangible chapter to my story, a testament to my perseverance and passion. Beyond the certification, it stands as a reminder of the transformative power of education, shaping not just my career but also my identity and future.
What's next?
My future plans involve continuing to develop my skills in creating art to enhance the beauty of people, places, and objects. I aim to tell more stories through my work and inspire others to explore their artistic talents. Additionally, I look forward to collaborating with different artists to further enrich my creative journey.
Any advice?
For anyone just starting out or finding it tough to make art, here's a simple tip: Keep going. Even when things feel rough, art can still happen. Mistakes might just lead you to something better. Sometimes, the hard times make the best stories.

Amerdeep also has an exhibition THROUGH ROSE COLOURED GLASSES showing at the HOLYART Gallery from 12 April - 24 April 2024.
In a world where inner and outer rain can breed misery, Luna yearned for an escape and stumbled upon rose-colored glasses. With these enchanted spectacles, she twirled through streets adorned with rose petals, discovering beauty in every corner.
Yet, Luna came to a crucial realisation: optimism, though comforting, mustn't shield her from facing the inner and outer storms.
"My comic art piece delves into mental health, urging us to find the beauty in rain while embracing life's full spectrum."
Beautiful work and yes to new perspectives. I never take my rose garlanded glasses off - so much love, happiness and beauty in the world that needs to be appreciated!
