My name is Priscilla, I am part of the tutor team at OCA and have worked in the Textile Department since 2013.
Over the next few months I will be facilitating the 'Study Events Circle', my aim is to create a cross curricular space to explore our creative culture - this will include everything across all disciplines highlighting external study events opportunities and exhibitions. This is also an area to share information about talks and workshops online and in person both nationally & internationally where possible.
This space will also create a link to the OCA Student Association upcoming and recorded events, and a place for students to recommend and reflect on events they have attended, either independently or as part of a group. Your contribution is vital in making this a great space for sharing and discussion so please join in and feel free to input as much as you wish.
My background is rooted in embroidered textiles and this greatly influences the way I make-work. I’ve always used a mixed media approach to my practice and work with many different materials and techniques. I explore themes relating to personal memories and emotions also drawing inspiration from literature, film and my ever-evolving collections of found objects, I re-assemble familiar materials fusing them together in strange and eclectic ways resolving as I go the interplay that forms a new identity for each piece.
I have 25 year experience in higher education and tutoring and 2022 sees the publication of my first book ‘Sculptural Textile Art’ published by Search Press. The book explores my process and techniques providing a guide to making small-scale sculptural textiles.
